How to link your Aadhaar card with your SIM card from home
From December 1, mobile phone users will no longer need to visit their telecom operator’s stores to verify their Aadhaar number with their mobile numbers, and it can be done from the comfort of your home. To recall, as directed by the Government, it is mandatory to re-verify your mobile number with your Aadhaar number by February 06, 2018.
“No need to give finger prints to local SIM card retailer for your mobile phone verification… From December 1, 2017, you can do it from comfort of your home through OTP received on mobile number registered with Aadhaar,” said UIDAI, the Aadhaar Card issuer authority.
For the ease of mobile phone users, UIDAI has approved two ways of verifying one’s SIM to Aadhaar. These new methods are: through websites or apps of telecom service providers or through calling their phone helplines for getting a one-time password (OTP) to verify their Aadhaar with the mobile number.
How to link your Aadhaar Card
Through the Operator’s website
The mobile phone users can visit the website or mobile apps of their telecom operators and re-verify their Aadhar number. You will first need to enter your mobile number which you want to re-verify. The telecom operator will generate an OTP on the entered mobile number which you need to enter on the website or app.
It will confirm that the mobile number to be re-verified is with the person. After that, a consent message will be displayed on the website and after checking the consent box, you need to enter your Aadhaar number.
The operator will generate an OTP request to UIDAI which you will be sent to the number you have registered with Aadhaar. Now, you will need to enter this OTP to re-verify your SIM with Aadhaar.
Calling the helpline number
The other option is that every operator will provide a helpline number. You will need to call up this number and your operator through IVRS ask for details to enter. You will need your Aadhaar card and mobile number to verify it. Rest of the process is same, you will receive the OTP from UIDAI and you will have to enter this to re-verify.
“The IVR language should be in English, Hindi and other regional languages of the respective states/circles,” UIDAI said further.
It is also to be noted that it has also become mandatory to link your bank account and insurance policies with Aadhaar, and the deadline for this is December 31, 2017. UIDAI had launched its mAadhaar app for Android users back in July, where you can access all your Aadhaar details including bank account linking status.
